The 2025 Smoky Mountain Invitational was an unforgettable weekend of dancing, laughter, and community in beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Hosted by Sam Gordon and Kisa Abbott at the iconic Park Vista Hotel, the event ran from September 19–21 and delivered everything from spirited competition to breathtaking views of the Smokies.
A Dance Vacation Kickoff
Our dance adventure began on Wednesday evening with a delicious dinner at The Greenbrier, and a very cool drink called the "Dylan". On Thursday, we enjoyed a tour of the Ole Smoky Distillery, complete with tastings of authentic Tennessee moonshine—a fitting way to prepare for the festivities ahead!
The Hillbilly Ball
That evening, the competition officially began with Nightclub dances and the lively Hillbilly Ball theme. Decked out in our best redneck attire, we laughed, danced, and even brought along our moonshine cherries to keep the spirit high. It was easily one of the most memorable nightclub nights we’ve ever had.
Friday Highlights
Friday was all about Smooth dances. Throughout the day, our students shined on the floor, with highlights including Chuck and Nicole’s powerful solo to “Barracuda,” which wowed the crowd. That evening, the professional competitions lit up the ballroom. Our very own Januel and Zoe took 1st place in Novice and 4th in Pre-Champ, while Donna and Januel made their debut as a rhythm partnership, dancing with heart and energy that made us proud.
Saturday Splendor
Saturday featured the Rhythm divisions by day and one of the most beautiful evenings of the entire competition. We gathered for a cocktail hour on the terrace, enjoying a stunning Gatlinburg sunset over the mountains, great company, and of course—more moonshine. Dinner followed by the Professional Open American Rhythm competition capped off the night, with Januel and Donna dancing even stronger and capturing everyone’s attention with their fun, dynamic performance.
Celebrating Success
The evening also brought recognition for our students and studio:
Top Newcomer Couple – Chuck & Nicole Chittick
Top Bronze Couple – Bill & Holly Welsh
Top Silver Female – Ashley Fowler
Top Student Overall – Ashley Fowler
Top Teacher Overall – Josh Crenshaw
Top Studio Overall – Celebrity Ballroom Dance Studios
Winning Top Studio Overall was particularly special, as the award was a signed Dolly Parton gold record—a one-of-a-kind keepsake now proudly displayed on our trophy shelf.
A Hillbilly Show to End It All
The competition wrapped up with a hilarious and highly entertaining Hillbilly-themed professional show, performed by the judges and officials. Familiar faces like Tamsyn Rockwell, Kimberley Mitchell, Michael Choi, and JT Thomas brought down the house with their performances. It was the perfect way to close out an event that blended skill, fun, and community in the heart of the Smokies.

Looking Ahead
The Smoky Mountain Invitational 2025 was one for the books. Between the incredible dancing, unforgettable theme nights, scenic beauty, and cherished moments with our dance family, it reminded us why these weekends are so special. We’re already looking forward to what’s in store for our 2026 competition calendar!

Wow, so excited and proud of our studio and dancing friends. It sounds like you had a great time.
Looking forward to all the events this month. Happy October. 🥰🕺🏾💃🏾
